Today I put my punk shoes on and we went on the best tour in new york (granted we haven't done any others but it was awesomeness)
We started at the cube and couldn't believe the amount of elderly individuals standing about...turns out there was an architecture tour and they were not partaking in our "r-rated" version - their loss :)
We saw everything from ex-gig venues, drug haunts, street art and music/film sets. John Joseph, our enigmatic tour guide knew everyone and everything about the area and has lived through it all as he grew up there, witnessing the punk and drug scene first hand.
To name but a few of our stops, on the three hour tour, there was cbgb's, palladium, irving plaza, set of taxi driver, scenes from Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin album covers...finishing up at Max's Kansas City where we got our photo taken with our cro-mags tour guide.
Not only this but John knows EVERYONE!!! We were introduced to the founding member of stomp, icons from the punk era and artists who have lived in that area since the 70s.
Feckin awesome day out and if you want to know the true history of new york city, I highly recommend it!!!
